Our 1970s Federal Pacific panel finally gave up. Volt came out the next morning, walked me through the 200-amp upgrade, and had the utility scheduled before they left. Price matched the estimate to the dollar and the inspector passed it on the first visit.

Reviews from Beaverton and nearby
Two other quotes wanted to slap a 50-amp breaker in and go. Volt did a load calc first, confirmed we had room, and hardwired the charger in the garage. About four hours, no drywall damage, and they handled the rebate form.
Eight recessed lights in a plaster ceiling and you cannot tell it was ever opened. They used the slim wafer lights so they didn't have to fight the joists. Dimmers don't buzz.
Standby generator and transfer switch after last winter's wind storm knocked us out for three days. They coordinated with NW Natural and the county inspector so I didn't have to. Tested it with me on a Saturday and explained exactly what it does when the power drops.
Half the upstairs kept going dead. Two electricians before them couldn't find it. Volt traced it to a backstabbed outlet behind a dresser in about forty minutes. Four stars only because they ran twenty minutes late, but they texted ahead.
Kitchen GFCIs, a new outlet for the island, and they fixed a three-way in the hall that never worked right. Booked online Tuesday, done Thursday, and the price was what the website said.
Questions we get on the phone
Do I need a permit for electrical work?
In Oregon most work beyond swapping a like-for-like fixture or device needs a permit: panel changes, new circuits, EV chargers, generators. We file it with the city or Washington County, meet the inspector, and hand you the passed inspection. Permit fees are itemized on the estimate.
How do I know if my panel needs to be replaced?
Age is the first clue. Fuse boxes, Federal Pacific or Zinsco panels (common in older Beaverton and Aloha homes), and anything under 100 amps are usually worth replacing. Warm breakers, a burning smell, lights dimming when the heat pump kicks on, or a panel that's full with no room for new circuits are the other signs. If your panel is fine, we tell you.
What size circuit does an EV charger need?
Most Level 2 chargers run on a 40- or 50-amp circuit, which gives 32 to 40 amps of charging and adds roughly 25 to 35 miles of range per hour. Whether your panel can support that depends on a load calculation, which we do before recommending anything. A 60-amp circuit is possible for faster charging if the service has room.
Where are GFCI outlets required?
Kitchens, bathrooms, garages, basements, laundry areas, outdoors, and anywhere within six feet of a sink. If your house predates those rules you don't have to retrofit everything at once, but we recommend starting with the kitchen and baths. A GFCI cuts power in a fraction of a second when something goes wrong.
Is the estimate really free, and is the price fixed?
Yes to both. We come out, look at the job, and give you a written price. That number holds unless we open a wall and find something neither of us could have seen, in which case we stop and talk to you before doing anything more.
My house has aluminum wiring. Is that dangerous?
It can be, mostly at the connections. We don't rewire the whole house unless you want to; we remediate with rated connectors at every outlet, switch, and fixture, which is the method most insurers accept. You get a written summary for your insurance company.
